Ian is with the Government Regulatory Practice Initiative (G-Reg), the world’s first cross government professional capability network for public servants with public powers. Ian has contributed to G-Reg’s development since its inception including producing and moderating every G-Reg conference for the past six years, most recently across 10 conference webinars in 2020 viewable at www.g-reg.govt.nz.

He is on secondment from Inland Revenue and has worked there in advisory, leadership and management roles across a broad range of compliance, legal, commercial, policy, media, capability building, cross government and business transformation initiatives.

Previously, Ian was a lawyer, then broadcaster, in London. Ian was admitted to the English Bar as an Inn of Court Scholar and practised at leading London and New York law firms (Allen & Overy, Cadwalader, Carter-Ruck) in international financial litigation and restructuring, as well as libel. Ian was a legal commentator for the BBC, Sky News, CNN and ITV. He wrote about law for the Times, Financial Times, New York Times and many others. He ran, produced and presented the Law Channel (CPD law films for law firms) and was a senior lecturer at the College of Law. Ian read law at Jesus College, Oxford.
